It’s hard to save money in a world where the economy isn’t doing so well. But the fact of the matter is saving money is not as hard as you might think.

There are some ways that you can save money that are completely painless and will help you to gather a nest egg in case the worst happens — like you get laid off.

Check out these 7 tips for saving money painlessly.

I think the best ones are:

  • Budget your money. It’s crucial to do this before you even think about savings, because you need to know where your money is coming from and where it’s going.
  • Pay yourself before anyone else. How? Whatever you have leftover when you’re done paying bills should be put in a separate savings account that you can use for indulgences.
  • Work toward spending less and less. If you can spend less than you have been, you’ll have more money to put towards savings.
  • If you have a second income, consider putting everything from that income into savings.

These are just a few ways that you can start saving money painlessly! What other ways do you save money that are completely painless?
