Your Dishwasher Can Actually Save You Money!

dishwasher-savings.jpg One would think that hand-washing dishes is more economical than using the dishwasher.  That is far from true.

Now, if you hand wash dishes and then put them in the dishwasher, then you reduce your costs by using the dishwasher.  However, measuring one method of doing dishes against another, dishwashers cost less and get your dishes cleaner.

Here are some other things you can do to save money while using the dishwasher...

How To Save On Dishwashing

Do not fill your soap cups.  It does not take a lot of dishwasher detergent to clean your dishes.  Fill the soap cups just ¼ full and your dishwasher detergent will last much longer.

Turn off the “heat dry” cycle.  Letting your dishes air dry will boost your energy savings.  Likewise, do not use your “temperature boost” or “pot-scrubber” cycle unless you have especially dirty dishes.

Clean out the floor of the dishwasher in between washes, as any debris left in there will keep the next load from getting clean.

Run your dishwasher only at night -- especially if you live in an area that has off-peak discounts.

Place spoons and butter knives in the dishwasher handle-down to make a little more space in your dishwasher silverware holder.

Lengthen the amount of time between adding Jet-Dry to your dishwasher.  Instead of adding it monthly, add it every 6 weeks.  Get a couple of extra weeks before you need jet-dry again by putting a cup of vinegar in your Jet-Dry receptacle.
